Dunhill Fine Cut Cigarette Tasting.
I’ve already had a tasting of Dunhill Master Blend cigarettes, now it’s Fine Cut’s turn. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to smoke them before the re-branding at the end of 2018. Well, we have what we have. So, the re-branding primarily affected the design of the pack and the elimination of the “Red” variety. I can’t judge how much the bag has changed yet, because I haven’t smoked them before.
The brand is still owned by Dunhill Tobacco of London Ltd. and produced by British American Tobacco or its affiliates.
The pack contains twenty cigarettes encased in a plastic jacket with an adhesive label, like a modern Marlboro or Master Blend. The filter of the Fine Cut cigarettes is still “elite” white. The design includes a silver, “chess” pattern that repeats the texture of the pack and the name of the brand.
Cigarettes are enclosed in a plastic jacket with a valve that allows you to take out no more than three cigarettes at a time.
Dunhill Fine Cut Master Blend. All cigarettes of this series are made in long format (93 mm length). Not only the stylized emblem, but also the trademark “D” has disappeared from the design of the cigarette pack of the early 2019 sample. The pack has a deep black color, the surface is one-third textured, and all inscriptions and the few graphic elements are in white. The construction of the tutu is of high quality, thick cardboard, and the corners are beveled.
Cigarette filter is double — most of the acetate fiber, and a smaller of acetate fiber with charcoal chips. Cigarette filter, externally limited just by the band with the name of the series, under the rim band is the so-called “tobacco filter”, that is a space filled with tobacco, which is usually not smoked and is a natural filter. The filter is the same for all varieties, so I won’t dwell on it further.
Here the sack is different, here light yellow fractions are a good half. However, among the yellow fractions there are occasionally yellow-green ribbons, apparently oriental leaf. The slicing still does not fit with the name of the series. What kind of “fine cut” is this, if there are such large pieces of leaf among the ribbons? The quality of the slicing is about the same — ribbons, vein cuts, large chunks of leaf and plenty of surrogate. TTX: resin 6 mg, nicotine 0.6 mg. CO 7 mg. By the way, maybe the “red” Dunhill was taken out of production because their ttc’s with the “blue” were almost the same, the only difference was the 7 mg resin content.
Smoke flavor is present in this variety, but like the previous one, it is not rich enough to distinguish the brand. The flavor is simply cigarette, with a slight bread note of Virginia. The bitterness is present here as well, but not as pronounced. Smoke is more loyal to the mucosa, and the strength is probably consistent with the stated. I would call these cigarettes more honest than the previous ones. Marks are the same 166 rubles. Whether it’s expensive or not, everyone decides for himself.
Dunhill Fine Cut Master Blend Blue. Yes, it’s the same color story as the Master Blend — the pack is gray-silver, but the name is “Blue”. The design and type of the pack, the plastic valve, and the filter design are all the same.
And the design of the cigarettes differs only in the light gray ribbon and the double line of perforation on the filter. Otherwise, everything is the same.
The color of this bag is very similar to the Fine Cut Master Blend — an abundance of light yellow fractions, but no yellow-green fractions at all. But the cut… Is it Dunhill? Thin long ribbons mixed with large chunks of leaf, longitudinal cuts of the vein and not dry, but still “sticks”. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen such a mess in a premium cigarette. This is the “lightest” cigarette series, specs: tar 4mg, nicotine 0.4 mg, CO 4 mg. And without the presence of the surrogate leaf in the bag of course did not do.
Despite the abundance of “trash” in the bag the taste is present but barely perceptible and only at the beginning — a very subtle fruity note. Which, however, by the middle of the cigarette disappears and there is only “air”. The strength and fullness (or rather its absence) probably corresponds to ultra light cigarettes and will be appreciated only by fans of minimum strength.
